After drama school, I was quickly cast in a high profile production for the Manchester Festival - The Cenci by PB Shelley, directed by Elizabeth Hopley, the Artistic Director of Kinetic Race Theatre Company. I then played the classical lead role of Beatrice Joanna in The Changeling for Aspects Theatre Company. Work in the theatre continued with Black Arts Development Project and I was cast in the pivotal role of Lena Younger in Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun, directed by Helen Parry at the Green Room Theatre. More theatre work ensued with the female lead Joyce in David Hermanstein's A Caribbean Abroad, directed by Wyllie Longmore at the Library Theatre.
I've toured with Northern Broadsides Theatre Company in ‘The Tempest’ playing Ariel. Barrie Rutter made Ariel tripartite and I shared this role with my sister actors Belinda Everett & Simone Saunders. In 2012 I was delighted to be cast in Tawona Sithole's groundbreaking play ‘Mwana’ as one of the central characters, Gladys Nyika. ‘Mwana’ had its premiere in Glasgow at the Tron Theatre before transferring to the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh.
My love & talent for comedy was recognised by Granada Television resulting in a part in ‘The World of Lee Evans’ followed by the role of Angelica in Yorkshire Television’s ‘Lamb of God’. Other television work includes roles in ‘Coronation Street’, ‘The Royal’ & ‘Emmerdale’ in addition to landing the featured role of Vonnie Johnson in ‘Brookside’.
Ive been delighted to act in many radio plays such as ‘Whoopi Goldberg’s Country Life’ in which I had the lead role, ‘Bad by Default’, ‘Number 10’, ‘Ashes to Ashes’, ‘Chaos by Design’ & ‘Shells on a Woven Chord’, all for BBC Radio 4. Please take a look at my profile on Spotlight which has clips from radio plays & a compilation of scenes from TV & film.
